My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 Miles this morning on the treadmill, barefoot. Didn't seem all that bad today. Usually I hate running barefoot on the treadmill, but recently it has seemed less inconvenient to just run barefoot on it than to try to locate my shoes, if you can believe it. I just keep thinking about my tendons and ligaments getting tougher and more resilient to injury. Jeez, I hope that is what is happening.

2.5 Miles on the treadmill barefoot tonight.

Yea, I broke 20 miles this week for the first time since the beginning of June!  Now a slow and steady climb to 30 is in order.  Wish me luck!

Quick poll:  My 5 year-old's KINDERGARTEN class has 37 kids in it.  Doesn't that seem like a lot?  Especially for kindergarten?  The teacher and aid acted like it was a totally normal number.   What is going on here?!

Congratulations on the mileage! Way to go girl! From 20 to 30 you won't even notice the difference.

37 kids seems like an awful lot to me! Only one teacher for 37 5-year-old kids? Yikes! I'd be curious to know what the other moms on the site say though :)

No no no no!! There should AT THE MOST be 20-23. 14-18 is ideal. That is nuts. I'd go BONKERS all over the district on that one.

Great mileage!! You are on a roll!!

37 is a lot! I like my kids' classes to have 20 or less. So did you give into the school tempation? No more homeschooling? (I love having my kids in school and they love it too) Great job on mileage this week! Are you busy with piano students, did that just start back up along with school?

From Mark on Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 10:44:34

Yes, definitely a bit hi, are all the other kindergarten classes that big?

Good job with the barefoot running, it seems to really be working for you.

Geez!! 37 is way out of control. Our school has a max of 19 (for half day K - the full day K is higher since they have a para). I'd talk to the other mom's in Joey's class and possibly talk to the principal. That's awful to START the year so full because it usually gets bigger! Go for it, Lybi!! Make a stink. It's worth it.

Great mileage! Good job coming back. But remember, you're still in your off (yucky) season so cut yourself some slack if you need to. Don't burn out - literally!

I don't think 37 is too bad as long as their is an aide. One person couldn't handle it, but two could.

I don't know what it should be for kindergarten but I was sure all elementary was in the 20's.

I teach junior high and have classes up to 51!! But this year I only have one over 40 :) The rest are mid 30 and that is normal for Utah.

That's why my kids go to a charter school. . .15 students in my children's classes!

From Lybi on Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 00:52:15

It IS a charter school! I expected a better ratio than at the regular elementary. Class size at our neighborhood school is 26. I don't know if there is a full-time aid, though. Luckily, there IS a full-time aid in my little boy's class and she is wonderful.

Laura, I made a moderate stink via email. Surprisingly they have not responded. Cowards. This is the same school that sent me the threatening letter and sent the police officer for my *blush* jay-walking (the cross-walk was blocked by construction, though!).

Christi, my 7 year-old is attending an on-line charter school at home this year. I like the structure and all the free resources. I wanted my 5 year-old to experience kindergarten, though. I love kindergarten!
