1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 miles by myself outside, for a change.  Average pace: 5.3 mph.  I was a little hesistant to get out tonight because I put it off until it was dark.  Then, of course, I was afraid of being piano teacher-napped by some wierdo.   I was determined to go outside, though, to see if it was more enjoyable than the ol' treadmill.  I think it was.  The temperature was perfect and there was a slight breeze.  I ran around the small man-made lakes in my neighborhood.  There were ducks and even some ducklings, which was sweet.

I tried to follow the ROOLS.  So I sped up a teeny tiny bit into the wind and up the hills.  AND I even tried singing BINGO in my head (see Sasha!).  He he he... all this wisdom by you experienced runners have is going to good use.  The data is conclusive:  according to the Garmin I did, in fact, run slightly faster when I was singing BINGO than not (!) even though I did not notice it at the time.  As a control, I tried singing "What a Wonderful World" in my head, but it was a little frustrating because I kept forgetting the words.

"ROOLS" Wow, you are getting runner tough. The extra effort gets you fitter mentally as well as physically. I will tell kind of a funny story about one of the "ROOLS" - My son-in-law was training with us for a marathon, I had just told him the "ROOLS". We were one step out the door and he complained it was cold, he lost 10 commando points. Awarding commando points is kind of game we play to reward each other (myself and my wife Sylvia) for extra effort and being a tough runner. You get 5 commando points.
