The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

3.35 outside alone at 9:30 pace on average. I am ready for Saturday. I'm going to show you guys that I can be tenacious.

Any prayers for my little 3 year-old would be greatly appreciated! Yesterday he chewed up and swallowed some glass. I called 911 and the fire department came, and we took him in... NO cuts in his mouth or throat and now we are all just waiting to see if his body can safely expel it naturally. I am a mess. He seems completely normal, though.

1.65 a little later with my boys.

Lybi, yes, god bless. Thanks for your supporting comments. I am sure you will give it your best on saturday. I look forward to a detailed race report. I need to check your hubby's blog. He comments so little, I forget to check up on him.

Oh man, that's scary for a mom. I'll be thinking of ya. I bet he'll be just fine! You are gonna RULE the 5k, can't wait to read the report!

From Christi on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 09:43:36

My sister's boy ate a nightlight bulb...he was OK after.

From Clay on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 10:06:20

Oh my Heck Lybi! I hope the little guy is alright:-)

From Kim on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 10:09:37

The things our kids make it through! I guess his body was craving some vitamin found only in glass. Luckily things like this seem to work themselves out quite well. Hopefully soon so you don't have to have that awful worry for so long. Good luck!

From James W on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 12:46:26

I was wondering about the vitamin thingie - maybe we need to get the boys back on the gummi-bear multivitamin regime. You forgot to mention that he tried to eat the McDonald's (gasp!) happy meal bag later that day . . . :D

This kid is a goer! time to put him on a leash:-)

From mom on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 16:27:01

What a character. Children are the real reason parents age. I hope he is fine. My guess is he will be. I told you I accidently ate glass and was fine. I am sure that the stevia on the glass eyedropper made it seem like it might be a candy cane. I don't think it is a nutritional need. Your kids keep you hopping. Good thing you are a fast runner both of you.

How scary! Hopefully he'll be OK.

Hey, we have very similar paces/recent PRs, and goals (BQ). Keep up the good work!

From Lybi on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 17:04:52

Rocketlady--we may have similar times, but you look a lot more comfortable doing them!

From Paul Petersen on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 17:11:30

Scary stuff. Kind of reminds me of Trashcan Annie's story about finding a corroded battery lodged up her son's nose. Little kids are amazingly resilient though (probably by design).

From Michelle on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 22:16:41

I agree definately by design they are very resilient! Hope all goes well with the little one and the race!!! I'll be thinking of you both!

From Shauna on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 23:16:39

Glad your little boy is OK!! Good luck in the 5K this Saturday!

From sarah on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 23:24:45

Oh Lybi..I know you must still be worried. I told my kids the other day that a man has eaten an entire airplane (I think it took him several years). It was in the Guiness Book of World Records so...I don't know...maybe since he chewed it up it won't hurt him....Hope that helps you sleep better.

From carrie on Wed, May 21, 2008 at 23:36:02

Goodness isn't life with kids an adventure! My thoughts are with you and your boy. I'm sure he'll be ok, but its nerve racking I know.

Good luck on your race!!!!

You guys are all so great. Thanks for the concern. I know you are all wondering exactly how this happened, so I'll give you the short story.

We were eating oatmeal for breakfast. I sweeten mine with stevia (a natural sweetner). It is in a liquid form and very powerful. Just three drops makes my oatmeal quiet sweet. It was in a glass container and had a glass dropper attached to the lid. So Adam was being poky about finishing. After I finished, I got up and started doing other stuff--but still in the same room. I should have put the stevia away immediately! Anyway, I had my back to Adam and I hear a terrible crunching/grinding noise. It was kind of like when a spoon is in the disposal while it is running (wonder how I know that...). I looked around--what could make that terrible sound. It took me a second to realize that it was coming from Adam. He had the dropper from the stevia and was eating it like a candy cane. (I'm sure it tasted really sweet.) He ate about the bottom inch off the end. He was absolutely pulverizing it with his teeth. He ground it up really good. IF you've ever wondered what is stronger, teeth or glass, it's teeth. So anyway, I started freaking out, hyperventilating, telling him to spit it out etc.

I took the dropper to see how long it was compared to the bottle, and Adam just started eating his oatmeal again, and I was like "Noooooo!!!!" I didn't know the right thing to do. Should I wash his mouth out with water? No that might push it down. I finally just held him in my lap and called 911. I was so frantic that I couldn't even tell my address for a few...long...seconds. While I was waiting for them to get here, I took my finger and just really gently wiped some tiny shards from the space between his cheek and his teeth. He never acted like he got hurt at all or even noticed that it was not just a piece of candy.

From Lybi on Thu, May 22, 2008 at 09:42:49

Oops, I accidentally sent that before I was done. Anyway, the doctor thought the best thing to do is wait and told me that the most dangerous part was already past--the mouth and throat part.

I think that most of the glass is already out and he is fine. But thanks for the prayers! I feel much more calm about it today than I was yesterday. I have been quite a wreck, honestly.
