1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

3 miles outside tonight in 27:00 (with breaks in between).   Warm up mile (continuous) in about 10:45, strrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreettttch; then 1 mile of fartleks in 6:45 (if you only count the fartleks--there was some walking in there as well) more stretching, cool down mile (continuous) in 9:30.  I was completely surprised that my last mile was faster than my first, because my legs were totally dead.  Like trying to run on ham shanks. . . or maybe with an entire pig strapped to my back.  I guess what they say about running farleks is true--they improve your form, and help your overall running.  I'm a-gonna be sore tomorrow.  Can't wait.

I was really grouchy going into this run, so I think I just wanted to do something a little different.  I either needed a good hard run, or a humongous brownie.  Why I chose running beats the dickens out of me.

Tomorrow I will reach my 20 mile a week goal, so even though I'm sure I'll be sore, I've gotta get out and do 3 easy miles.  Whew!  Now since I wrote it down I know I'll do it.

Good luck everyone who is running the Wasatch Back and other races on Saturday!!!

20 miles is awesome! Super job! you should reward yourself with something that makes you smile. Like you I am going to be sore tomorrow, and I will hobble when I walk. But man can we run!

Sounds like a good run! Way to go after that goal! As for the farleks? I need a good defintion of what that is and maybe I could give it a try, for sure I could use some improvement of form and other things. I hear you all bat that word around a bit but I am a little slow on the jargon since I have no running experience or background. But definately an interesting word. Now as for definitions, humongous brownie I know the defintion of that! What were you thinking!!!???

Lybi, great workout, it helps to take breaks when you are moving to harder workouts. Great job. A 6:30 pace in fartleks is great. By the way, I often run better when grumppy about something.

Great job! If you ran 3 miles in 27 min. with breaks- you are going to have an awesome 5k on the 4th! I'm excited for you. To answer your question about having a buddy at races- I have one partner I run with 2-3x a week. Other than that just a few people that I see around at races, etc. I should probably join the local running club, but they meet on the other side of town and I'm too lazy to drive over, when I can just leave my front door & run!
