Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

5K with Christine in 29:40 (9:34 pace).  Felt pretty good.  This is a :58 PR for Christine since she started running again.   I probably would've gone a little slower if she hadn't been there, but I was DETERMINED not to be the one slowing us down.  This is why she is so good for me.

So I got the impression that some of you might need an explanation about giving up sugar and white flour this week.  Let me explain...no there is too much, let me sum up:  Someone at church asked me "how far along" I am...as if I were pregnant!  Never never do this!  People should all adopt Dave Barry's rule of thumb about confronting pregnant women--unless you actually SEE the baby exiting the woman's body, you should not assume she is pregnant.  Otherwise you might drive her to weird dietary changes, yada yada yada.  'Nuff said.

Ah man! I had someone ask my once if I was expecting too- NOT FUN! I totall respect the cutting back on sugar & white flour- unfortunately I'm not ready to make the commitment yet. However my son Toby is in Webelo scouts and they had to plan a week of healthy meals, we are doing it this week. This has really helped be be accountable and set a good example for him. I made bran muffins for an after school treat yesterday (you know instead of the junk I usually feed him!)

oh yeah, and as far as running goes (sometimes I forget that's the reason for this blog- hee hee, j/k) you & Christine are rockin' n' rollin'- what great partners you make!

Congratulations on making it through your AZ summer! BTW, I think you have the most interesting blog!

Wow, Lybi! I've been sick and felt guilty checking the blog since I couldn't run. No white flour and no white sugar. I'm VERY impressed! But I thought Mom was correct in saying that you've done this once before - at least I thought you completely got off sugar before. That's a great challenge - I'm gonna have to really think if I'm ready for that, especially with Mike's family reunion this weekend (notorious for sweets!).

Lybi, best to you on the diet change. No more comments about saw dust on my part. I wish I had the will power to give it a try.

I remember when I was learning to drive (at the age of 23). I thought there was no way in the world I could possibly merge on a freeway with all the traffic going so fast. What finally gave me the confidence was having seen numerous 80 year old ladies do it just fine. I figured if they could do it, I could do it. It turned out to be a lot easier than I thought.

Sometimes we make a relatively simple task a lot harder to do by talking it up.

Hey! Someone impersonated me...again. Not naming any names, Brent. :) (In other words, I did not just wish myself luck on my diet change.)

So far I'm happy with the food situation. Unless my scale is broken, I'm showing a 2 pound drop in 3 days. Whoa. I want to be like Sasha's Mom and loose 11 pounds in a month. :)

Lulu, thanks so much. If I can't be the fastest, I can at least try to be "interesting". He he. I don't know, though. Some of the people on this blog are pretty darn interesting AND fast. That's where I hope I'm going.

Christi, thanks for the support. I am so excited for you & your St. George adventure coming up soon!
