Prs:

1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Hey, check it out! Thanks to Adam for pointing out this picture to me. This is me finishing the Provo City Half Marathon in my socks. I see now how puffy my face is. JK.

I can tell exactly what I am thinking by looking at this picture. The Pachevs have a lovely, deep, cushy couch in their front room. I was thinking 'I'm gonna lay down on that couch and not move for at least an hour!' And I did.  (Actually, I think this is when I first saw my three little boys waiting for me just across the finish line.  But the couch truly was an inspiration to me during miles 11-12.)

One mile barefoot today at the crack of dawn, 10:17 pace

3 more tonight at 9:55 pace, shod.  Gotta calm down, that is just a little fast for me in a recovery week.  Everything feels good now except possibly my hamstrings, which are just a little tight.

My wife and I were reading your blog and we were wondering if you always run without shoes? Does it affect the arches in your feet? Does it really make you less injury prone? Thanks for the comment on my blog! And good luck running!

From Mik'L on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 00:26:20

That is classic! You are still lookin strong to me! Crazy girl with no socks on though! It sounds like you are recovering pretty good.

From Lybi on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 01:18:04

MurseR, I usually only run 1 or 2 miles barefoot per day. My arches are average to low, but to me they seem to be getting higher since I started barefooting. Running sans shoes teaches you not to overstride, and not to heel-strike (because it hurts if you do!). Overstriding and heel-striking are 2 big causes of some of the more common running injuries such as plantar fascitis. So I guess it's good. But I like it because it's fun.

Thanks Mik'L! YOUR turn to run a half and get paced by 3 fabulous runners...right?

From Kim on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 08:53:58

That is an awesome picture Lybi! I love that they got you in your socks! Look at the lady in the background, she's wondering if you're a crazy woman! (Which you are in a very good way!)

From Jody on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 09:13:52

Cute Pic!! I love that you are missing your shoes!! How much did you run barefoot? ( I missed that ) Great run!

From josse on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:56:35

That is one of the best end of race photos I have ever seen. Glad you had a great birthday and are recovering well from the half.

From Kerry on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:56:36

Great picture, Lybi! You reminded me of Abebe Bikila winning the 1960 Olympic marathon.

I love the picture!! What a woman to go without shoes! Keep up the good work.

From wildbull on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:02:15

you should make that your Blog pic. you look great with no shoes!

From Christi on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 11:19:55

Yay! This is just the kind of pic I was hoping for! Esp. since you are barefoot in it! You look like you are finishing up FAST & STRONG (and I see NO puffiness!) Way to GO!

From Lyndsay on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 17:47:18

That is an awesome picture! Are you smiling!?!? That is great.

From Kristina on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 19:37:03

You look so cute! Are you barefoot in this picture?

From Mom on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 21:22:17

I went to zazoosh and saw all the pictures. I especially like the one with James running alongside you pushing the jogging stroller and obviously talking encouragingly to you. I also noticed that it looks really COLD. Everyone is all dressed up and those that are not look they have really pink to red skin. What's with the width of your blog. Sounds like a problem.

From The Farns on Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 21:41:41

I know what you were thinking: "Car keys, socks, hair thing...I know I forgot something this morning." It was your shoes, Libby. Your shoes!

Way to be an iron girl (with tungsten carbide feet).

From kristina on Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 09:54:42

I'm glad it's not just my computer that made you blog look all kinds of wide :)

You know grant, you and I are in the minority on facebook. Maybe YOU should get a blog :) Besides you never talk to your family members on facebook :P

From Lybi on Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 13:48:15

Kristina--are you saying I look WIDE? JK. That is the freakiest, longest picture location in Kerry's comment I've ever seen! Cool picture, though. I'm flattered by the comparison.

The Farns-a-Larns! Good to see you, Grant. OK OK, I'll look into your yuppy facebook. "The Blog" here rules over facebook, though, because the people here are all trying to actually accomplish something, whereas on facebook, I think the idea is to try to convince people you are cool. Very UNcool. But your pet tarantula alone makes up for the facebook habit you have. Long live Stella!

Bull-it would've been better if I'd had no socks on for publicity purposes, but I didn't have time to get them off. My dear pacer was quite concerned that I stopped long enough to even take off the ol' shoes. Of course, I see his point, because he was the unfortunate soul that ended up carrying said shoes the last 2 miles to the finish line for me. That's going above and beyond, doncha think?

Thanks for the comments, everybody.

From Maria on Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 15:39:09

Great picture, Lybi! You look strong and you're smiling, I think you're having too much fun for it being end of a half! I never look this good at the end of my races. I agree that you should make it your blog picture.

From Sasha Pachev on Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 21:40:20

I found a clever hack that keeps the page from breaking if somebody posts a very long string. Not without problems (e.g in this case the URL disappears), but will have to do for now.

Lybi - I agree with you on the Facebook. No reason that a non-runner could not set up a blog here. Everyone is supposed to exercise even if they do not like to/cannot run. If they have a person on this site they are supporting, they should have a blog of their own. More pages, more content means more traffic for us, which in turns means more ad revenue, and makes it possible for me to spend more time improving it.
