1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Hey look at that.  I like green.  Especially on mile markers.

I just finished 2 miles on the treadmill at 22:48.  I tried starting REALLY slow (4 miles an hour) and gradually increasing the pace to 6.5 miles an hour by the end.  I like the switching of speeds.  It almost feels like I use different muscles when I speed up a little, and I don't notice the fatigue.  I am pretty happy that I didn't labor with the breathing as I got faster.  I could still run with my mouth closed until I got up past 5.5 miles per hour--which was around the 1 mile mark.

You know another thing I like about running on a treadmill?  I watch movies on a little portable DVD player.   You know, the kind that you can put in your car?  Well, they fit perfectly on the little book rest on the treadmill.  One of the hardest things for me during running is what goes on in my head.  Without a distraction, I usually end up staring at the little screen, watching each .01 of a mile tick by.  Or if I'm at the track, I start doing infuriating fractions.  "Look, I've already done 3.25 laps and I'm going for 8.  That means I've only got 19/32nds left to go (get a pencil and paper--it's right) . . . now I've done 3.5 laps . . . ."  Good grief.  Talk about neural fatigue.  I've got to get some really great music to listen to--I bet that would help.  What do you guys think about while you run?

Well I haven't quite made a race every month for the past 7 yrs, that's just been a goal for the last couple yrs. and there's months I miss. I like your distraction ideas that you use while running. So much of running is mental and just convincing our bodies to go along! Sometimes I like to run alone and just think- sort out my day. But often I like to run w/ people & chat. Occasionally I go to the gym where I can watch a full size movie while I run (theatre room)- but when I do this I really miss being outside. During races I use music, but that's really the only time. Anyway- good luck w/ your training this next week! I'm going out of town so my challenge will be to see if I can make myself run on vacation!

Hey Lybi,

You are still blogging....good girl.

Sasha is still practicing the piano

He forced me to help him last night at like 10:30 when I was desperate to go to bed after two bad nights witha very

sick baby Jacob...sound familiar?

I miss you..it feels like forever since

we were there and we had such a great time

with you guys.

6 hours piano...did you have a rectial or something big to prepare for?

I've got to get better about blogging

again. I run every day between 2-5or 6 miles but I need to write it down.

My kids say Hi to yours...have a good day

I just saw your comment about me running pregnant and I need to qualify that...I was just barely pregnant and had not really started feeling sick yet. I was also younger then and in better shape. I think that was my third pregnancy and I was less stressed with only two kids. Also by the end of that and all pregnancies I did just run a couple of slow miles. I just wasn't pregnant enough for that race to slow down yet....
