1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Hooray!  Another new (albeit tiny) record for a non-race 5K with Christine today.  30:46, which is 9:56 pace.  Actual miles were: 10:06, 9:58, and 9:45, (9:32 pace for the last .1).   Felt good...I'm happy, and as always it was a huge treat to run with Christine.  I see now the HUGE positive effect training partners can have on running performance.

I'm starting to really notice the benefits of running in general.  I feel like I can really trust my body to make it through the day and still have energy left.   Before I started running I often would run out of energy before the day was over--and this is without even doing any kind of exercise to tire me out!  Now I am exercising, and I still have more energy.  Very nice.

PM --One thing that is concerning me a little is that my left hip is always just a little sore.  I don't feel it during the run, but when I first wake up in the morning, and when I get up after sitting down, it hurts a little kind of like a sore muscle--right below the crest of my hip.  I need to get back to the chiro.

Another 1.65 miles with Holly and Paige in the evening.  Fun fun.  I am the one blabbing it up in this little group.  It took me fully a mile to attempt to explain the whole sniffing shorts reference on the blog.

Wow, you are making me jealous. I wish I had a training partner, too :( I am excited to hear about the difference in your energy level. I think for me the one missing link was the vitamins and minerals. I have decided to start taking my multi 2x per day and see if it has any noticeable effect on my energy level.

Good job lybi, the addiction to running is starting for you, enjoy!

From Tom on Tue, Sep 11, 2007 at 15:46:37

Congrats on the non-race record and on beginning to reap the rewards of your running. Who knows down the road you may look back and find you've gradually turned into one of those crazy runners that show up near the top of the Mileage Board.

BTW the post yesterday (or was it the day before???) about the dog was hilarious. It totally cracked me up. I've taken my silky terrier with me running exactly once and that's it, due to some of the same somewhat psychotic dog behavior that you mentioned.

Lybi I was so glad when I started feeling that way too! I feel like it's my morning runs that energize me and fuel me for the day, also so much less groggy and sleepy too. I find when I do run at night I'm just kinda dragging through the day. I also find on Sundays when I don't run, I'm like a munch-mouth, garbage disposal eating and munching on everything. Maybe there's no conection and it's all mental but it seems to make a difference!

By the time Oct. rolls around I'm sure keeping up with you is going to be out of the question!!

Hey Lybi...it is so fun to see how far you have come since I first met you in April. You are doing awesome. That is a brisk pace..

Darn those miserable hips....there seems to be a lot of that going around. When I went and got a massage today, she told me she thought mine was my piraformis muscle, I wasn't hurting at the time, so hard to tell? She did work it over a bit and tonight when I went out with McCall and just jogged easy I felt tender in the general area that my hip usually hurts, so maybe she's onto something. If that is the case, more stretching and maybe a weekly massage is the RX (more likely lots more stretching and dreaming of weekly massage, a girls gotta dream right!!!)

No medical advice, my hip hurts sometimes, buris sac, stretch the IT band towards the top, ice with dixie cups. This was per my physical therapist. Congrads on the PR, you will soon break 30, 29, etc. I expect you PR next summer will be down in the 26 range if you stick with it over the winter and slowly increase your running base. One question, as you get more serious as a runner, will you still be as funny? This is not a laughing matter, no funny bone, your fellow bloggers are counting on reading the adventures of Lybi.

James, it is harder to find running buddies who want to run at 4:30 am, but just wait, I'll run your legs off after a little more time and training.

Thanks Clay, Tom, Michelle, Sarah and Brent. It makes me so happy when people take time out of their day to comment on my little blog.

Brent, don't worry, as long as I have something significant to postpone I will gladly spend too much time elaborating on embarrassing experiences that happen while running. Blogging is quite an effective way to procrastinate.
