1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I am sucking on garlic today, as I woke up with a sore throat. I have my own evil theory as to how it discourages infection: basically making the germs so stinky that they don't want to reproduce.

I'd have to lie to say that I was able to finish my run today with Christine. I ran a more typical pace for me (~10:00) for about a mile, then I started having some pain in my knee, so I slowed down, however it didn't really help and actually hurt more and more as I went along so I just walked home.

My throat is scratchy to, man I don't know about this.

From Christi on Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 11:10:08

Shoot! My cold is coming back too. We all need to get our sleep! Have fun on your evening run gabbing w/ Christine and GO GARLIC!

From Clay on Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 11:55:06

Vitamin C really helped me get over my cold or at least keep it at bay, just a thought!

From Lybi on Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 14:44:39

Josse--hope you don't get sick! It might just be the dry air in my case, I hope. Humidifier ho!

Christi and Clay--you guys are geniuses. I am going to go take some Vit. C and take a nap RIGHT NOW!

From katey on Tue, Jan 15, 2008 at 23:33:24

way to get out there even though your throat hurt...i would have just stayed home! good job!

From James W on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 00:35:08

Sorry about your leg - take it easy the next couple of days and vigorously stretch and ice that leg. We'll see where you are on Thursday and make a decision then. No matter what, I am proud of you.

From Jody on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 09:27:41

I hope you get feeling better! Take it really easy (All moms can do this, he,he) You have done a great job!

From Michelle on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 09:44:31

uhgg!!! Dang that knee. I know that you are planning on coming one way or the other.. (I would prefer it the other) but are you still coming alone? How long is the drive?

From Lybi on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 11:58:17

Michelle-7 hours. And I am debating coming again. Now I'm all sick & I've lost my voice, so I won't even be able to talk to you, or shake your hand to wish you luck for fear of getting you sick. I am so sad today. Today is all blackness.

From Kim on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 12:14:23

Oh Lybi, Blackness is so not fun! Please don't feel like you have to travel 7 hours by yourself to be sick and run 13 miles. We would have to call you crazy. I can't even imagine traveling my 3 1/2 hours in those conditions. Maybe Painter's just isn't meant to be for you. Listen to your body and do what's best for you and your family. If you don't come you will sorely be missed, but we will all understand. You need something to bring some sunshine into your life today! I am praying that someway it will come. Maybe your visiting teacher will drop by with a nice warm loaf of homemade bread. (Here in cold country that sounds better than ice cream!) Good luck today! You are loved by all your bloggie friends!

From Michelle on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 16:08:21

I'm so sorry Lybi, I was so looking forward to a good face to face chat with you! But I too agree with Kim, take care of yourself first and then do whats best for you and the family! If you do decide to come, don't worry about making us sick though, it won't get us in time for the half and we can all take next week off resting in bed and not feel guilty about it!

From Shauna on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 17:11:28

Oh no! I'm so sorry you're sick and hurting. Definitely listen to your body this weekend.

I know it's not the same as running with all the bloggers, but there is a half in Queen Creek in early Feb.

I'm sorry you're sad, and I hope you're better today. Believe me, I know what running sadness is like-I'm just now getting over it myself!

From Clay on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 17:48:40

I know your pain Lybi... Just remember missing the race doesn't define who you are, it's the journey that you are on. James, the Kids,& and staying healthy thats what counts...

From Christi on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 18:02:45

Lybi! Hey! Chin up! Its January- what crazy people run races in January anyway? LOL.. I hope you come to SG to visit, but ONLY if its best for you. If not we will party in April before Striders! Get better FAST!

From Mom on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 21:53:47

I like the idea of the half in Queen Creek in February. Better weather, not much of a drive. The family can be there to cheer you on.

From Brent on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 23:08:38

Ditto for MOM: Lybi, take it for what it is worth, bag it, if you make the trip, forget the race, just have fun with the other bloggers. There is always another race, you only have two knees. Take the time off, get the knee better and get over the sickness. A few days or week off will do a body good sometimes. I may be the crazy runner, but not that crazy to tell you to run the race.

Take Care, B of BS Rools out

From Mike Warren on Wed, Jan 16, 2008 at 23:21:05

Lybi, be sure you get the knee some rest! I trained for STG with a hurt knee, people kept telling me to rest. I of course did the hero thing and kept pushing along. Long story short, it led to a bad experience at mile 16 in the race. I finaly took 3 weeks off, did the proper rehab and I feel like a new person. Now it's fun to run, without the pain. Sorry your plans are getting messed up, I know how hard it is to shut it down! Hope you get feeling better.

my daddy sucks on garlic to.

From Lybi on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 13:18:41

Jennifer--you cutie, that is no coincidence. I decided to try it because he does it. It's gross, but it does seem to help.

All the rest of you riff-raff: thanks so much for your input! You guys really made my day during kind of a rough couple of days. It was fun to pop on after being off the blog for about 24 hours (gasp!) and see that so many people were concerned.
