Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I had a really scary dream last night about running in the dark, so this morning when my running buddy slept in I took it as a sign and went back to bed.  I can't deny--it felt really good!

2.83 with the double jogging stroller.  It was really hard today (it's always hard to me, but still!)  I figured out why at the end of my run, when the front tire started making a weird grating sound.  It was so flat that the rim was rolling on the ground--Ug!

2.17 Tonight all by my lonesome self.

Had some pain in my femur today--or maybe it was my quads.  It caused a little bit of a limp for about 3 quarters of a mile.  Felt better as I went along.  (That means it can't possibly be a stress fracture, right?) I took it extremely slow all day.

I would take a rolling pin to that quad, if it is just muscle this should help. It will hurt but do it as hard as you can stand :) and think happy thoughts.

A rolling pin! What a great idea, Josse! Last night James saw me limping around the house and absolutely forbade me from running today. :( Does that sound right to you? I am sure now that it is tense muscles in the quad causing the problem. James rubbed it down for me last night and there were several knots in the muscles.

I know it is hard to take a day off, I had to so this yesterday. But if you are limping a day or two won't hurt and it is better than several months off. Maybe do some cross training today and see how you feel. I would do some cold/hot on it as well.

You are a freakin' GENIUS when it comes to injuries, Josse!! Thanks for the help.

From josse on Thu, Oct 25, 2007 at 11:01:53

I have worked on them for a long time, and had many myself. Another thing is doing a deep strech in that quad. Bring your foot up to your behind as you would in a normal quad strech then push that hip forwrd for a deeper strech. Hold for 15-20 seconds and

breath deep. Do both sides at least 3 times. I think taking the time to strech is most runners down fall. I even neglegt it and know better. I know if I keep up my yoga I do better but get busy and forget to do it. I am really trying to do it know.

A flat tire in a jogging stroller can easily make your quads overwork.

From Bethany on Thu, Oct 25, 2007 at 19:34:03

You and your poor jogging strollers! Talk about double workout Lybi! Hope the quad cheers up soon.

From Brent on Thu, Oct 25, 2007 at 22:39:13

Jogging stroller with bad wheels? Maybe a cross training day or two is in order. I am not sure whether you get commando points for pushing a stroller with a flat or you were in a running daze. Anyway, be careful out there, you have a big half marathon to train for.

From Lybi on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 00:40:01

I know it was dumb. I was just talking to my kids...and wondering why the stroller kept pulling to one side.

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 11:07:33

How is the quad doing?

From Lybi on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 12:05:26

Sasha--I'm not limping when I walk, so that's good. It does hurt to run on though, especially those first few steps. But it is getting better day by day. I think it's just a muscle spasm. I see now how people can tear a muscle while running--if they get all tense like this first. I did some walking yesterday, some heat, and some rolling pin work. I probably need to go to the chiro and maybe get even a massage, which I have never done before.

Thanks for the concern! I know you are a super busy coach, but you are a good one.

Ouch!! I'm so sorry to hear about your quads, Lybi. I know it must be hurting you a lot since you've gone 2 days now without posting a run. I hope you do actually get a massage!! Take care of my favorite little sister (hee, hee)! Love you.
