1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Look at my guys!  Halloween was good to us.

2.8 with Christine.  I would've thought that I was going sub 10 pace, but actually we went fairly slow today despite moderate effort.  Probably related to the yucky night of sleep from all the *coughing* chocolate I ate last night.  I've been off of my no-sugar diet since my 2nd son's b-day party, btw.  Time to get back on, though!  How can I gain that much in one stinkin' week?!

2.5 Running my son to and from school.  I broke the law today.  Well, I break the law everyday, but today was different because I did it about 6 feet away from a policeman (NOBODY TELL SCOTT ZINCONE!).  Let me explain...

Unfortunately, I am forced to J-walk across a 5 lane road everyday to and from school with my 3 kids in tow.  I would love to cross at the light, but there is some kind of nasty construction complication on the other side that renders it impassable.  Luckily, it is not a busy road at the times when I have to cross (and I always wait until there are practically NO cars in sight!)

I have always been a little uncomfortable about this situation--especially because there are jillions of parents in a huge traffic jam in the school parking lot who are bored, and stare at me when I do it.  I've been a little concerned that someone would object.   So today when I saw the policeman sitting there on the sidewalk with his mototcycle right where I cross, I feared the worst.  As soon as I was within blubbering range, I immediately launched into an explanation/plea bargain of why I have to cross there.  His eyes glazed over after a few seconds, and he starting talking on his phone without even waiting for me to stop.  He never even said a word to me.  I still wonder if he was there to apprehend me, or was just  having bike trouble or something.  Anyways, since he seemed preoccupied, I just crossed the road as usual.  So this is why we pay taxes, people.  Just think about it.

In my little town there has never been a problem with J-walking. Everybody just crosses wherever they want and hopes for the best. Maybe he, like me very often, was doing something really important...like getting a list of things to do from his wife before going home. Or maybe he realized how good you are at running tangents.

Lybi, what is a strassburg sock? I am willing to try anything right now?

You are having way too much fun with the pics. and they are sooo cute! I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to change and put them on without my husbands help! Looks like halloween was good to you guys! Good luck reigning in the diet. I'm not even sure where to begin with mine ?

From Lybi on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 08:47:30

Hahahah, Scott you made me laugh. Yes, I'm sure he was doing something important. He really did seem to be inspecting his bike rather closely.

Michelle, the sock is a therapudeic device for helping heal from plantar fascitis. It is basically a long sock that has a velcro strap pulling your toes up. You wear it when you sleep. It is not super comfortable, but it really does work. James had PF really bad at one point. He used a combination of the sock and taking break from running for about a month(sorry). But he is now completely recovered. And if any symptoms flare back up, he just nips it in the bud by wearing the sock at night for a week or so. PF is one of those things that can really take you down. You might have to take a week off and swim or something. Don't worry, you'll still have plenty of time to get ready for the half! But if it continues to get worse, it could get to the point where it take a REALLY long time to heal. http://www.thesock.com/

Cute pic! I want to know if you dressed up for Halloween?! Funny story too. And even the best of us have to give in to the goodies on Halloween, right?! See you tomorrow!

From Bethany on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 11:42:43

Cody used the sock too and it really did wonders. He used it on both feet (not at the same time) and swears by it.

Darling picture Lybi! You are becoming quite the expert with your blog. I love checkin it out. Plus, your little confessions make me feel oh so much better about myself (IE sugar crashes for Halloween and J walking- I didnt even know this was against the law until I was in Jr High! No one seems to care much)

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 11:57:48

Lybi - I suppose you are learning that slips in diet consistency, while bad for men, are particularly bad for women.

From Shauna on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 11:59:41

I love the picture!

What is the plan for tomorrow? Do you want to meet at Tempe Town Lake? The entrance is on the northwest corner of Mill Ave. and Rio Salado-there's a big iron sign. I'll probably recognize you from your picture, but I am 5'8", and I have long blonde hair. And, the running clothes will probably give me away too!

Let me know if that location works for you, and what time, and I'll be there!

From Michelle on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 12:08:50

Well I ordered the sock, I'm glad to hear another testimonial. I'm sure it won't be here for a day or two, so I'm going to keep the running a little light for a bit, I think? I really don't have another form of exercising if I don't run so I can't really stop. Our gym is not a pleasant place to be and they require a 6 month membership, and swimming isn't something that I'm good enough at to call it a workout!

Lybi-I just sent my contact info to your email.

From Lybi on Fri, Nov 02, 2007 at 15:14:36

Mik'L I wore pajamas. Does that count as a costume? Pajamas are the best. Any day you can wear them all evening is a good day.

Sasha, you are the only person on Earth who can tell me I need to lose weight without it offending me in the slightest. So enjoy it, but don't abuse it. ;)

Bethany and Mik'L: HI! (I had to say SOMETHING!)

Shauna--I like your plan. See you there around 4:45-4:50? Email me & I'll send you my contact info. Lybi@cox.net

Michelle--glad you got the sock! In the meantime, maybe you could just try to run shorter, slower, and on soft surfaces like grass.
