1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Never at any time in my little life have I put 10 miles on these legs in one day. Longest ever before was 8 miles. Longest since I started running again was 7. So this is a record for me, but I have to admit it was not continuous. I ran two 5 milers.

First I ran 3 with Christine and finished up with 2 more with my dog. Ave. pace was 10:15 for the whole run. Just as I was bringing in the dog (he doesn't run very far--2 miles is about his limit) a man called from our church, begging for James to come help someone move. So James left and I got the kids ready for the day and did some of my Saturday chores. James got back about an hour and a half later, and I finished up with another 5.

But here's where it gets fun: Ave. pace for the second run was 9:01! That is really good for me. I think it's the fastest 5 miler I've ever done at 45:05. I never thought I'd be able to do that at the same time as breaking my record for most running in a day by a long ways. I think the reason it was faster was that I ran with music. My stupid MP3 player kept shutting off and starting over with the first song--"Eye of the Tiger." I listened to that song about 90% of the time on my run. My splits were: 9:33, 9:40, 9:20, 8:29, 8:02. I never would have believed those last two miles without the Garmin. That is my tempo mile pace! To be fair, it was slightly uphill the first half and very slightly downhill the whole second half. Plus I stopped the watch for traffic lights and to smooch, I mean, say hello to James as I ran by the park. But still!!! I am happy. And right now I'm not dead tired. Isn't that weird? Now I am starting to wonder if I might be a distance runner after all. I mean, maybe a 5K is too short of a race for me to really get into my groove, which thing I had never before supposed.

Way to go Lybi! If it says liby, liby, liby on the label, label, label then it's got to be great! I am excited to watch your progress! Keep that Eye of the Tiger going!

From James W on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 13:58:06

What is your current post-HS 5K record? By my calculations, your last 5K on this run was approximately 26:49, give or take a few seconds. Good job!

From Clay on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 14:05:11

Great job Lybi, you are coming along so well... I think you are a distance runner, you actually got stronger as the run went on, your awesome!

From Brent on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 15:14:28

Lybi, 25 commando points. Smart running today, you have passed another mileage barrier. Who would have thunk it 6 months ago. Have a dozen twinkees on me, send me the bill.

Stay Cool, B of BS Rools out

From Mom on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 16:22:18

You are awesome. It was the smooching that sped up your last miles!!!

From Jody on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 16:41:43

Congrats on a record breaking day! Go celebrate and have fun!

From Lybi on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 16:53:51

I think I'll celebrate by sitting on my rear and staring into space the rest of the day, if that's okay with you, but thanks everyone!

From Stacy on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 17:09:17

You definitely earned a good sit and stare. Congratulations on breaking your record.

From Shauna on Sat, Dec 15, 2007 at 18:39:04

YOU ROCK!! You are going to smoke the Moab Half! I definitely think you have the potential to be a great distance runner. You've been breaking records like crazy lately!!

From Christi on Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 00:16:31

Blazing Lybi! What a day! What a pace for that 5 miler! You are doing SO awesome! Have you found a race to do before Moab?

From Michelle on Sun, Dec 16, 2007 at 21:03:52

Holy Cow Lybi, what did you have for breakfast!!! You are ROCKING!!!

BTW, I guess I just got excitted about the Moad thing and checked the web site tonight, we'll know by the 19th, so we wait some more! As for the hip and foot? Hip is a bit better, I ice it a lot and it seems to help some, the foot, I'd like to amputate.... I don't sleep well in the sock at all, but if I don't wear it I pay for it the next day but I've figured that I'm giving both the silent treatment and hoping they'll go away!! Maybe they are both looking for extra attention and I'm not going to give in!

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 14:52:01

Good progress. Should be able to run sub-2:00 in the half.

As I've said before, a properly run 5 K hurts a lot more than a properly run half.

WE DIDN'T GET IN MOAB!!!!!BUMMER!!!!I just got the email. It bites! Maybe Hurricane 1/2 in May? Food for thought....

From Cody on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 18:16:51

That is too bad your group didn't get in the lottery. We need to figure out who to talk to so your group can get in......

Someone must accept bribes....

From Lybi on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 18:20:27

Or threats! I've got a really smelly pair of shorts here, and I'm not afraid to use them!

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Dec 17, 2007 at 18:31:49

I think all of you are ready for the Painter's Half in a month in St. George. They gave the FRB/St. George Running Center racing team some comps, so they are on our good side. Just run that one.
