1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Not so good in the running arena. 1.5 miles with my boys and my knee bothered. 2.5 miles with Christine and my knee bothered some more.

It is storming here. I love lightning and thunder! But we did get shafted a little tonight, because we couldn't see the full lunar eclipse because of clouds. Rotten luck! There are hardly ever any clouds. No more lunar eclipses until 2010.

OK- now I feel guilty for not taking my kids outside to see it- no more 'til 2010! We were rushed all afternoon and evening- so when we got home at 9:15 I rushed them off to bed and was mum about the eclipse (even though I knew about it..) I'm going to tell myself we wouldn't have been able to see it either because it was cloudy and raining here. Ok, I feel better now. ANYWAY- glad to hear you got some house scrubbing done. I needed to lose so I would clean! Sorry to hear your knee is not cooperating! Maybe an occasional weight workout will strengthen those supporting muscles? My knees act up from time to time, but they seem to do better when I'm lifing 1x a week. Good luck!

I was sad we couldn't see the eclipse here either Lybi! Christi, I'm sure you wouldn't have been able to see it either. Does that help?

Oh well on the running, you always have tomorrow. I wish we could have a great thunder/lightening storm rather than just snow. Have a great day!

From Jody on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 19:48:50

Way to be tough! Sorry about the sore knee. I was just thinking that maybe I need to add strength training to help mine, and Christi says yes!

From Brent on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 22:16:22

Lybi, maybe luney tunes would help. The knee, dixie cup ice, stretch the IT band. Never under estimate the value of icing (not ice cream from the inside out this time). Also, does the area where it hurts feel warm? If so, you have inflamation, ice and anti-inflam needed.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Tsk tsk. I just let my 2 week free gym membership run out. I guess I could do squats.

Brent-my knee does not feel hot, but there appears to be some bruising? I keep thinking, 'Naw, I must have banged myself there' but I can't think of when I may have done that. It is on the side of my knee, but I also have discomfort below the knee cap (not under) and in the back of my knee where the hamstrings attach. The pain has never been sharp, just achy/uncomfortable, and enough to make me alter my stride almost to the point of limping. I'll do the Dixie Cup thing, even though I hate icing with a passion.

Does it hurt to walk down stairs?

From Lybi on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 23:35:12

Interesting question. I don't have any stairs. I just tried stepping down off the couch, and yeah it hurt 'cuz I tripped and landed on my head (not really). So thanks a lot, S Browning! Just kidding just kidding. I need to find some stairs somewhere. It doesn't feel good when I do squats, is that the same?

From Cody on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 23:41:31

A completely uneducated guess would be IT band issues. I would need more info though. Scott (S Browning) will give you a better diagnosis though.

From Lybi on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 23:44:38

I wouldn't call that completely uneducated, Cody. You've been through IT band issues 101, 102, 201 and 202.
