1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

This morning our church group (ward) had a great activity. They had laid down all these humongous tarps overlapping each other to make a GIGANTIC slip'n'slide that went down a huge hill. They had a fire hose blasting water down it. It was SOOOOO much fun! 5 people could go down at once. James & the kids had a major blast, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more...unless possibly I could have done it without hurting myself. :)

I am all messed up! I was running and jumping all sprawled out in the air on each run, then, well, who knows what happened on the way down. I would turn and twist and scream. It was so great. But I did something to my left hip and now I'm limping. Dang it! My intuition is telling me to ice it. I may try shuffling (running) later. It is my left leg (for once!) and it feels weak. Every once in a while my knee buckles when I am limping around. What really hurts is to bring my leg forward. No can do. A lot of the discomfort (pain) seems more like referred pain than real pain. Probably this will go away really soon and everything will be peachy...I hope!

You've gotta stop partying so hard at ward functions- ha! Seriously, I'm sorry you're hurt. That stinks! I hope you're all better for running Monday- just take Sunday easy. Did you get your new 5 finger or whatever they're called (shoes) yet? Also- I'm way late weighing in on the Sat. long run. But let me tell you what works for me. I like the Sat. long run mostly because I make up mileage at the end of the week and its social time for me. I take is slow & take 1/2 pack of GU and a drink every 5 miles. That way I still have the energy to get through my day. Just my 2 cents. Bottom line- gotta do what works for you!

You have to quite coming up with such lame excuses not to run!

Sounds like a super fun ward activity.

From Lybi on Sun, Jun 15, 2008 at 19:35:03

James--lame is right! I can't even walk, buddy! You're in for it. And yes, it was super-fun. It was worth missing a day of training, but not a week, so I better heal up here pretty quick.

Christi--isn't it ridiculous? All the other ladies my age (except Christine) hung out in jeans in the shade and never even tried it. I completely can't understand that. But then, I am the one limping around today. Heh. Thanks for your take on the long run. I am sure I will be revisiting the long run sometime in the next couple of months.

I did a dumb on one of those things once too! Cool young women's president jumps up into the air before slamming down flat onto the HARD ground underneath the slip n slide! Not a fun back experience! Hope you are up and running again soon! No more set backs for you! You have a 1/2 marathon to be training for!

Hi! I sent you an e-mail. I have been dead to the world the past 2 days (see blog), but I am still in town and will be here Tuesday. I got your message (thanks!) and will call you Monday.

Well- the ladies hanging in the shade should learn by your example that the cute, hip moms like you & Christine are PLAYING! (good reminder to me to try to not be "one of those moms" *wink*)

Ill have to tell Alexander (Falcon) to be careful, later in July his track club has a water party - water balloon shotput, slip and slide race etc. Maybe you couold come and give him some pointers?

From Lybi on Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 14:07:08

Michael--just tell him not to do any super-high flying leaps. But then again, he's got wings, hasn't he?

Christi--you are the definition of a cute hip mom. You're the standard. No danger of being too boring, imho.

Kim--Ouch! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's done this. I'm in good company, I guess.

Benjamin had a similar experience jumping on a trampoline. Made his back sore. Cost him probably a minute in Heart of Holladay.

From Kristina on Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 21:33:38

Wow, that does sound way fun. I want to play slip and slide, without the hurting myself part. Though I'm sure I would. I don't think I can get through a day without hurting myself :) Anyway, I hope you are feeling better. I would have taken an ibuprofen, gotten some sleep, and then tried to see how I felt in the morning.

Anyway, check your email, I invited you to my online book club :)
