1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Well, I am sure you are all impressed by my 100 yd. tempo run. The truth is, I just really did not feel like doing a tempo run! I'm going to choose to call it "listening to my body" instead of "outright laziness." Bring on the railings if you must--I'm ready for it. Maybe I'll ask Christine to run fast with me tomorrow morning. I do feel good about my 6 miler though. I think I could get used to doing 6 a day.

On a side note, I reached a new level of dignity in the running department: underarm chaffage. (I didn't say it was a higher level, just a new one.) What kind of a sport is this!? I have to type with my elbows sticking out. This is an outrage! Now I am stuck with the bewildering dilemma of configuring band-aids in a very tricky place. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go apply ice.

Let's rail on eachother and call it good. I was supposed to get in one more mile yesterday and blogged that I would- then didn't. Man! As far as the underarm chaffage- that does sound tricky. You'll really have to lube those puppies before your next run!! Vasoline (sp?)??!

I will be the first to applaud you for listening to your body. Mental health for a mom is ESSENTIAL. Running is wonderful for your body and mind but you also need to be in tune with your need to save yourself for the emotional demands of the day. Don't leave it all on the road or treadmill and be a happy mommy..GREAT JOB!!!!

I've heard that chaffage is an issue for many runners...big, small, male, and female. I still think that Body Glide is the best out there...no mess and very effective. I can't run more than 100 yards without it.

Oh goody, there are more running departments than pain? Thanks for giving me an idea of things to come! (in the far far away future that is...)

Great job upping the mileage and always pushing yourself. But if it makes you feel better..."Lybi! What are you thinking? Im depending on you to be superwoman and get in those tempos! Now run!" There, I did it for you. Railing accomplished.

From andee on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 12:43:03

Sorry about the chaffage - that is no fun at all. Way to go with a good run & listening to your body!!

Well, it is official. You are all horrible at railing. (See, THAT is a railing.) Thanks for trying, anyway. :) You made me smile.

The people on this blog are all so sweet. I try to make up for it by being mean every once in a while. Hiii-YAH! Ninja-running-mommy-piano teacher on the loose.

But the good news is that you've all made me want to go run again, so here I go!

My husband has always swore on Vaseline for all is runs fast long slow or whatever. good luck on healing. One day I hope to run 6 miles good job on staying consistant.

From jfogg on Fri, Dec 14, 2007 at 10:20:30

Agreed. Vaseline works great...the only negative is the mess to apply it. If you could get it in a roll-on, like the Body Glide, then it would be the most cost-effective method for sure. Try the vaseline first.
