1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Yea!  I cashed in most of my commando points today for my BEST running high ever: my first 6 miler since I've started running again.

I took it out nice and slow.  I never really looked at my pace--just tried to run easy.  I haven't run over 3 miles at once by myself for a long time, so I thought it would be hard.  Here's the wierd part-it was hard and slightly aggravating the first 3 or 4 miles, but it just seemed to get better from there.  I was still feeling really fresh around 4.7 miles so I decided to pick it up a little.  It felt soooo good.  Up until today, I don't think I've EVER understood why Sasha says sometimes says that he just didn't want to slow down.  How could you not want to slow down?  That's like saying you don't want to open your birthday presents or something--or so I thought.  So I was bopping along at a slightly faster pace, but when I looked down at my Garmin, it said I was going 2:00 a mile faster.  Wow!  I wasn't even breathing faster or anything.  It didn't even FEEL harder.  It just felt good!  I've felt like I was on death's door  going slower than that in races!  I could've gone another 2 miles, I know it!  But I promised James that I wouldn't be gone longer than an hour, so I brought her in.  But this helped to revive my enthusiasm for running, so I am happy.

59:19 for 6 miles.  Splits of 10:02, 10:14, 10:20, 10:29, 9:50, 8:21.

Oh yeah, and I had someone yell a swear word at me out the window of a car.  That's a first.  Plus, I almost got creamed by a motorcycle.  Don't pedestrians have the right of way when the sidewalk crosses a parking lot entrance?

And one other thing...I met Abdi Abdirahman today at James' race.  (Remember he is based in Tuscon.  He wasn't running--he was just there for publicity.)  He looked just like he did on TV only skinnier.  It would take a whole passle of scientists to figure out how in the heck that man keeps his jeans from falling to his feet.  But he was really nice, and confirmed that he does, in fact, eat liver for breakfast every morning.  Now THAT is dedication.  (Urp.)   I thought about asking him to join the fastrunning blog, but I lost my nerve.  Ha ha. :)

Wow what a day! Wish I had such a fun one. Now I want to cash in my commando points.

From Brent on Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 23:02:43

Lybi, one of the best descriptions of runners high ever. I am so happy for you. I am sure you will earn a gazillion commando points in the years to come. Real Runner yes, real person yes, Stay Cool, B of BS Rools out.

From Michelle on Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 23:29:32

Lybi, Sounds like the run today was awesome! Yesterday I got a peice of what you are talking about too! I don't know if I ever got going that fast but when I really got going it felt pretty good! I am a little worried about the half though... Christi is logging some super speedy times and now you? I might need to step down to the five and come in together!

From Lybi on Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 23:30:50

Ha ha, Michelle!

From Tom on Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 23:35:18

Lybi congrats on the great run, like Brent said I think you caught the spirit of the runners high pretty well.

Oh hey and way to get your first swear word! Maybe next you'll be as lucky as I've been in the past and get a few more surprises like getting intentionally splashed, "bird-ed", people shouting trying to startle you or throwing a drink on you. Seem like there's a lot of road rage out there and runners are a favorite victim. Maybe we should assign commando point values for all this various types of insults.

Hey James sure did great on his race today!

From Bethany on Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 23:40:40

What an inspiration. If that isnt something to work for, I dont know what is. Nice way to cash em in Lybi! You deserve it.

From Christi on Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 10:51:26

Lybi-The description of your run makes me want to go out and run! Good for you having such a GREAT run! (well, except for the getting yelled at parts...) Saturday when our little group ran we got honked at like 3 times and I'm pretty sure it was just to startle us- obnoxious!

Michelle- I think YOU, Lybi & Mik'l are the speedy ones!

From Clay on Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 11:33:26

Great job on the awesome run Lybi, running can make you feel so great and then so rotton all at the same time, its a crazy sport...

And as far as the public is concerned, I once had a lady pull up along side me and lecture me on how running should be done on track and not out on the road, I thought she was kidding at first. When I found out she was serious I gave her a piece of my mind, if you now what I mean, some people just don't get it.

Keep up the good work...

From Lybi on Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 11:59:45

Clay, you are so awesome! I hate confrontations. I thought about saying something like "Well, you smell like a dead donkey! And your momma wears combat boots!" That would've showed him. But yeah, it bites that some people think running should be kept away from the general public.

PS Michelle you are fast. Just be careful--don't try to prove that while you are recovering from injury. And Christi, YOU are the only one of the 4 of us that has run a marathon--and in very good time, too, for goodness sakes.

From Michael on Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 20:42:30

Way to go Lybi, congrats on the 6 miles, Im going to have to increase my miles to keep up with you. Sounds like you had a great day

From Shauna on Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 23:34:13

Great job! Isn't the runner's high the best?! And, yes, I think you are right about having the right of way when crossing a driveway. It's amazing (and scary!) how many drivers don't even look both ways before they turn. I am sure we are all perfect drivers, right?

Anyway, your run has re-motivated me after a sag in motivation last week-thanks!!

From wheakory on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 11:44:47

Great job on your high mile run that's excellent. Sometimes when you run faster the effort is easy. It could be do to rest the right diet, but it does feel great. I'm happy for you.

From Lybi on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 12:48:21

Thanks, Michael, Shauna and Kory! You know how to boost the ol' morale. :) :)

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Nov 19, 2007 at 13:00:44

Glad to see that the mileage is finally starting to bring fruit. If you can find a reasonable 5 K some time in the near future, jump in and race it to see what you can do. Do not taper for it, though. I think you can pull off a sub-25:00.

Interestingly enough, I do not remember the last time I've heard a swear word yelled at me from a car. But I live in Provo, and run mostly on trails.

From Lybi on Tue, Nov 20, 2007 at 21:55:50

Sasha, thanks for the vote of confidence! Sub 25:00 would have me dancing on the ceiling. :) I'll look for a race ASAP!
