1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

My dear bloggees, this is the run I am most proud of since I starting running again.  Not because it was fast or awesome, no no noooo.  It is because I really really REALLY didn't want to go.  I was super exhausted because...well, it's all my fault.  I woke up earlier than usual to take my oldest son for a 40 min. walk before school (I hope eventually to gradually turn it into about a 2 mile jog). Then I overdid it at the gym this morning, which I am not used to.  Then I cleaned all day like a crazy woman,  because on Mondays the house is always a complete disaster, after, count 'em ONE day of taking it easy on Sunday *fist at the sky*.  Anyway, I was all fatigued so I thought it would be a great idea to eat a whole bag of these "Energy Sunflower Seeds"  (Zips, have you heard of them?) to give me a boost, which they did,  But then they wore off and I was dragging soooooooooo bad by the evening.  But I decided that if I only run when I "feel" like it and have tons of energy, I won't really get what I hope to achieve from running, which is, of course, self mastery.  It's like love, or being nice to people.  If you're only nice to people who are nice to you, then you are only half-way loving.  You have to be able to love (or be kind) even when it is difficult.

Anyway, once I got out, I actually started feeling better.  The temperature was PERFECT and cool and I loved just hanging out with James and talking about our day.  So it worked.

Side note: for dinner I made Green Crepes, and my boys LOVED them.

    • 2 C Milk
    • 2 C Freshly groud white wheat flout
    • 1 Pinch sea salt
    • 8 Eggs
    • 1/2 C melted coconut oil, or ghee, or butter
    • 2-3 C fresh spinach

Blend it like crazy in the blender until you can't see any spinach pieces.  Fry up with butter. Serve with Fresh Lemon Juice and Powdered Sugar, or Splenda or whatever.

Spinach is so awesome.  Spinach follows the philosophy of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," except with flavor.  Like, if you can't taste good, at least have a really mild flavor that is almost undetectable.  Well, if you were to eat just a mouthful of plain spinach, you would definitely taste it and feel sorta sorry for yourself for having to swallow manatee food.  But you can mix it with ice cream and milk and have a great green milkshake, or in spaghetti sauce, or in any kind of soup etc.  Spinach rocks.

Nice job fitting running into your day Lybi! Spinach is definately one curious green. And, yes, true runners are completely insane (not just half).

i agree spinach rocks. i currently go through it at a rate of 3 bags/week (no joke).

i like your thoughts in this post. i'm glad you were able to get out and run despite that "draggy-please-don't-make-me-run" feedback you were getting from your body. self mastery for sure! and you never regret a run once is done.

i haven't forgotten about the weighted vest experiment -- it's in the works this week.

way to go Lybi. It always feels better after you force your self to go. I'm always glad I did. Sounds like you were one busy lady on Monday! I'm exhausted thinking about your day. Thanks for coming over yesterday!!!

p.s. I grew up with the inventor of zips

Camille, thanks for having us over! You are fun incarnate. Also, what a sweet mommy you are.

Allie, thanks for doing the experiment! 3 cheers for the pursuit of KNOWLEDGE!!! Wow, you eat even more spinach than me: more evidence of your awesomeness.

Chad, glad to know I am not alone (although I would be, if we were running the same course, you speedy!)

Hehe. I love this post! I want to name it Ode to Spinach, with a side of self-mastery to boot! ;) I love reading your posts - it makes me feel like we live closer together. :) love ya!
