1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

2 Miles barefoot before sunrise with Sparky.  I am starting to feel really comfortable with the early wake-up.  It's the 9:30 bedtime that is giving me fits!

Of all the ignominious running injuries one can possibly sustain while barefoot, I think I have located the stupidest: dogs stepping on you.   Remember that chow that attacked us recently?  He stepped on my bare foot and scratched my foot with his nastly ol' toenails.  That was my first barefoot injury.  Well, today Sparky lunged after a barking dog behind a fence, and ground my pinky toe into the pavement as he took off.  Now it is swollen and stinging.  Da!  He only weighs 17 lbs.!   I hope it is not broken, again.  Humph.

So, does this qualify as a "mental accident"? ;P

I'm sure you will be fine, but maybe you ought to save the barefoot miles for running sans Sparky . . .

From Lybi on Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 14:21:32

Yes it does, 'cause that silly dog of yours is mental!

He's YOUR dog when he does bad things such as breaking my toe and MY dog, when, for example, he is sleeping peacefully.

To avoid injuries like that you might consider what I do. I wear Nike Free shoes. They simulate barefoot running because the sole is so flexible you can roll the shoe up into a ball in your hand. The top is sort of like a sock. But the advantage is that little things like small rocks or dog toes don't get you.

Are you "owning" Sparky or is he "owning" you?! Hee hee, j/k! Had to throw in some Dog Whisperer terminology that I knew you'd recognize. Heck, my dog totally owns me. Anyway- GREAT job getting out the door in the mornings! Good luck w/ the toe!

So, how did you get Grant AND Heber to post!?!?! Amazing. I think James has the best idea - barefoot sans Sparky. Sounds like you're doing great with the early mornings, though. Yea!!!! Keep it up, wonder-woman.

Lybi, yucky question, it seems with the hazards of doggy do do, bugs, rocks and other crazy things on the ground. You, sparky and your feet are in for many future adventures. The free shoes sound better.

Stay Kool, with furture adventures of Sparky and Lybi, B of BS Rools out
