1 mile:  6:31

5K:  23:37

Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

4 miles on the treadmill.  I got up really early, got dressed in my warm running clothes, took 2 steps in the pitch darkness, turned around and hopped on the treadmill.  I am being a ninny these days about running alone in the dark.

Thanks so much for the kind comments on yesterday's blog.  I know it is sad to see, but I think it is important to honor her little life in whatever way we can.   I thought a lot about her on my run today.    I want to be a fighter, too--not just always taking the easy way.

Today I taught my last day of Tuesday preschool (it's a co-op) until February!  That means Tuesdays will go back to being an almost normal workload day.  Yea!

Lybi, Just knowing you and reading your posts renews my faith in humanity. It gives me the courage to start today in a positive and hopeful frame of mind. Thanks... Steve.

That little baby is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing, such a sweet life. I know that "God will wipe away every tear" in heaven. I look forward to tomorrow's joy.

It was nice to meet you today. Sorry I was in a rush and couldn't stay and chat more.

And thanks for almost making me cry. Such a touching story. My heart goes out for them.

Well you guys are all so sweet! Way to make my day, Steve.

Yes, Jhorn, she is beautiful, and I know her mother is very much looking forward to seeing her again.

Burt, it was great to meet you too! I'm sure we'll have lots of time to chat at the DEL SOL RELAY!!!!!! YIPPEE! I hope we get to decorate our vans like crazy and everything. We should do some team runs, too. We need to practice our handoffs! (Plus I'd like to be able to cheer for people by name.) I'm telling you, there may only be 3 of us from the blog on the team so far, but the others will soon join us. Resistance is futile!

Last year, well this year too, we used to get together all the time. We went to South Mountain, Tempe Town Lake, the Riparian (sp?) Preserve in Gilbert, Usery Pass, and the Eastern Canal in North Mesa. My favorite is Usery Pass, which is leg 31 of Ragnar. But now that I live in Queen Creek I don't know how enthused I am to drive 20 to 30 miles to go running. :(

Lybi-I'm in tears! I'm so sad for your friend and her husband. Ava is beautiful. I think it is wonderful that you are dedicating this month's run to her. :o)

Burt - you guys trained all over? See what I miss while I'm pregnant and on maternity leave? I won't complain too much... Melanie was totally worth it. T

The "baton" that they use for the Ragnar is a slap bracelet like we use to wear in the 90's. :o) I like them because you don't have to carry it the entire time.

From Burt on Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 22:57:23

...ummm, Camille, I think she was just making a joke. Who would practice passing a baton for a 182 mile race???

From Lybi on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 01:28:47

Burt, I just want a chance to get to know the rest of the team. AND I may or may not actually want to practice hand-offs. Humph! (THAT is a joke...) Slap bracelets...oooh--almost as cool as a slinky. Do we have reflective vests? And headlamps?

Thanks for the kind words about Ava, Camille.

From Camille on Thu, Oct 16, 2008 at 09:33:19

I have at least 1 headlamp (maybe two). Burt - do you think we can borrow vests from the survey department?

When you compare the slap bracelets to slinkies, the slap bracelets don't seem as cool anymore. Slinkies rock!
