My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Aw man!  My milage is slipping.  I'm having a hard time juggling everything in my schedule right now, but I thought I'd get on and at least be accountable.     What is a good goal for me to shoot for in terms of weekly mileage at this early stage of my training?  I want to run a 5K at the end of May.  On a good day I go about 2 miles, in general.

Hi Piano teacher.

I think you could run a 5 k right now and live to tell about it.

your running about a mile a day. I would think a good goal would be 10-15 miles a week. for several weeks. keep that goal until you achieve it.

good luck in your training. Make up a schedule and fit your runs in that schedule.

I find that other than sleep usually there are very few scheduling conflicts at 5:00 AM. There is a point where sleeping extra 10 minutes is more effective than running extra 10 minutes, but I think it starts once you run at least 4 miles a day regardless of the amount of sleep you are getting.

I definitely have a scheduling conflict at 5:00 am. My pillow needs me at that time. Very important. The last time I was conscious on purpose at 5:00 am was probably staying up all night in college to cram for finals. Even then, it depends on what your definition of "conscious" is. I actually prefer to run at night since I am exhausted and good for nothing other than just going to sleep when I finish. Bad way to start out a morning IMHO.
