My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

Well, I've been resting my knee.  After my long walk a couple of days ago, the pain started to bother me even just while walking.  I feel it when I extend my leg from mostly straight/just a little bent to straight.  There is also a grinding sound coming from the meniscus (I think?).  So I'm going to set up an appt. with a Dr. and a chiro. for next week, if I can.  In the meantime, it's couch potato time.  I hope I get it all out of my system, so that when I can run again I will not take it for granted. : )

Today I had a HUMONGOUS piano event (300-400 students, 80 teachers, 22 pianos on stage, and a standing-room-only audience of a couple thousand).  The most notable thing that happened was that my close friend D'Net--a fabulous piano teacher--tripped in the parking lot and completely busted both bones in her leg right above her ankle.  She sent her 8 year-old daughter back inside to find me.  We called an ambulance, but I ended up driving her to the hospital.  It was a terrible break; very hard to see her in such pain.  It reminded me that every day you do not break your leg is a GREAT DAY!

Sorry to hear about your knee Lybi. And wow! what an event. I used to play piano when I was a kid and just reading about it gives me stage fright. Good Luck and get well soon.

Whoa! Sorry to hear about your knee too! I hope its a minor thing that will go bye-bye w/ some R & R! As far as your friend's break goes- how awful!! That piano recital or whatever it was sounds huge! I was just thinking the other day how I wish my daughter would have a recital... She started taking in the fall and is going GREAT! I'd like her to have a taste of that performance satisfaction- such a confidence builder!(but no talk of recitals yet from teacher...?)

From Lybi on Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 15:27:48

Christi--Ask you teacher about recitals. They are not hard to do! If you express interest, he/she can plan one even if it wasn't originally on the calendar.

Recitals are the best! I really can't imagine teaching without having recitals. It's something to work towards--just like a race or something. My kids have 6-7 performance situations throughout the year. Only 3 are mandatory, though, the other are optional. This thing yesterday was a concert of piano duets. There were 22 pianos, and 2 students on each. One group would go on, play their two duets, then go off and then next group would go on. I think there were 13 groups (not all were full). There were really easy pieces for the beginners, and really complex ones for the more advanced students. It was HUGE!

Steve, bring some music when you come. I'll break you of your stage fright! You get better at performing by doing it. So, I'll expect some dinner music while we eat (JUST KIDDING!).

Lybi, thanks for your comments. You have had such a roller coaster ride in your running. Echo, hope is something minor, we need you at Striders 1/2. The Lybster has to be there.

Thanks Brent. I really hope I can still run Striders. I was quite sad that weekend of missing Painters, and I don't go through that again.

I hope it is nothing serious with your knee!! You are an awesome piano teacher. I do not have the patience for it. I love that my kids play and I enjoy listing to them practice (even my 7 yr old who plays the cello) but I get so frustrated trying to help them learn!!

From Bethany on Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 19:03:48

Uh oh Lybi, my grief for your knee as well. Enjoy the R and R, knowing you, it will be running as usual asap.

From Mik'L on Sun, Feb 24, 2008 at 23:14:06

I hope you are doing okay! I've been out of the blogging world for awhile and am not happy to read that you aren't feeling that great. Relax and get better quick!

BTW, check out Paul's Saturday blog for a laugh...he talked about it Friday night and then that was the goal Saturday morning. lol

And have fun with all the bloggers down in your area this weekend!

I'm so sorry about your knee. Take it easy, and hopefully it will get better soon.

Congrats on the piano event. It brings back memories.

Random question: is your friend D'Net about 5 years older than us? Is she a school teacher? If so, I think she was a student teacher in my high school choir class in Flagstaff (1995-96 school year) and took voice lessons from my teacher (Nola Collier). I remember her name because the spelling is different...Sorry to hear about her legs.

From Lybi on Mon, Feb 25, 2008 at 23:12:55

Shauna--Yes, D'Net taught choir. She has curly black hair and is a fun, pert chica. By the way, she is not doing well. The orthopedic surgeon she saw today sent her back to the hospital. He said she needs to stay in the hospital under close observation until at least Friday because she is still in shock and may be having some kind of bad reaction or blood clots or something. Yikes! I am so...I don't know. I'm just really concerned about her.
