Half Marathon: 2:04

My first post-high school 5K, in which I thought I was going to die

The first time I won my age division.  Yippee!

My first half marathon, in which I attack Sasha

The time I beat my high school PR for the 5K (as a 31 year-old mommy of 3!)

My first 5K barefooted

Short-Term Running Goals:

I'm just getting back into running after a long break to have my last child.  I would like to race some 10Ks, a half, and a marathon in the next 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Be the oldest woman to complete a marathon.  Yea!  But hopefully I will also complete some BEFORE I geezer up, like, before I'm 40 for sure.  I think it would be fun to dress up really strange for marathons, like impersonating celebrities and stuff.  Except I don't really like celebrities, as a rule, so maybe I'll have to stick to the age old question of ninja, or pirate.  I say ninja. *Hyah!*

Personal:

I am happily married to James W (Cool Runnings). We have 3 boys and 1 opinionated little girl.  I love reading and I'm also a news junkie.  I am a stinker.

I had to sprint to the bus stop to get my son off the bus.  Does that count?

I'm still huffing from finishing my 2 miles (incline at 1) on the treadmill.  I started out at 4.5 mph which felt really  . . . I felt like I was pounding a lot.  I had a tiny bit of pain in my knee and shins at this speed.  I ran the bulk of the run at 5.3 mph.  I finished at 6 mph which feels good on my legs--I strike more on my mid-foot than heels at this speed.  However, I definitely breathe harder.  I felt exhausted, but I was exhausted before I started.  I haven't been getting enough sleep.  Piano concert pressure--life returns to normal (such as it is) a week from today.  Yea!

Piano: 4 hours in rehearsal, 45 min. with my piano teacher, 1 hour on my own

Time to go stretch.

Oh yeah!  I have a major complaint!  I've gained weight since I started running.  What gives!?

Nice little run on the treadmill.  Incline 1 speed 5.0 for the most part.  I REEEAALLY didn't want to do it today, but thank goodness I just did it anyway.  Remember how exhausted I was yesterday?  Well, a certain two year-old was up a  million jillion katrillion times in the night so I was in a blithering daze all morning until I got a nap after my run.  Now I feel fine.  Running 2 miles doesn't leave me tired very long anymore--maybe just half an hour or so.   Progress.

I notice that I really want to run faster when I hear a song that I like on my DVD player (in a movie soudtrack, for example).  For my upcoming race I really need to get 30 minutes of the best music for running I can find.  Any ideas?  Some of my favorites for running so far are "Walking on Sunshine" "Respect "(he he) and the theme from Crimson Tide.

On treadmill, same specs as usual.  Dragging a little.

On treadmill, same ol' same ol'.  Except I started the run without shoes on, just for kicks.  It was cool for about a quarter of a mile.  Then my heels started to hurt.  So I shod up and finished.  But I didn't wear socks. (Ah!)  I must be craving some change.  I've gotta get on the road tomorrow.  I feel too much like a hamster on that thing.

On a happy note. . .  I now have visible calf muscles.  So that's good, I guess.

.6 miles with my 4 year old.  He runs about 13 min/mile pace.

1.4 miles on the treadmill at 5.3 mph.  I actually was going to skip running tonight, but I couldn't fall asleep.  I had this ichy feeling in my legs.  So I am now one of the initiated . . . running post-midnight.   I think part of the reason I couldn't sleep was because I really wanted to meet my goal of 10 miles this week.  Now just one more week like this and then I can increase my mileage to 15 miles a week.    I definitely feel that running 2 miles is getting easier.  I basically feel sweatier, but not tired or sore when I finish.  BTW the high today was 101 F.  Running outside is not going to be a very pleasant option for me very much longer.  Thank goodness for the ol' treadmill.

Piano: nothing much, although I did teach my son a couple songs
